How it works
Three steps. Zero sign-up.
Step 1: Enter a username
Any public GitHub account. No sign-up.
Step 2: We scan every repo
README, links, license, activity and topics — live links are actually pinged.
Step 3: Fix what's flagged
Each issue comes with a one-line fix. Re-run to see your score climb.
What we check
7 checks. 100 points.
Every public, non-fork repo is scored on the same seven checks. Your profile score is the average.
25pts
README
The first thing anyone reads: what it is and how to run it.
15pts
Description
Shows in search results, on your profile and on pinned repos.
15pts
Live link set
Judges and clients want to click and try it, not clone it.
15pts
Live link works
A dead demo link is worse than none — so we actually ping it.
10pts
License
Tells people they're allowed to use and build on your code.
10pts
Updated in last 6 months
Recent commits say the project is alive and maintained.

Who it's for
Anyone whose GitHub gets looked at.
Students & hackathons
Make your repos judge-ready before you submit: a clear README and a demo link that loads.
Freelancers
Clients click your links. Make sure every one of them works before they do.
Job seekers
Recruiters skim READMEs in seconds. Make those seconds count.
FAQ
Questions, answered.
Yes, completely.
No. GitCheckup only reads public data from the GitHub API. There's no sign-in and nothing to authorize.
No. Only public, non-fork repos are scored.
Our server requests the homepage URL set on your repo. If it returns an error (4xx/5xx) or doesn't answer within 5 seconds, it's marked down.
Most points come from a good README, a description and a working live link — those are the quickest wins. Each flagged repo tells you exactly what to add.
